Appearance:
Lucius is tall and thin, with a similarly thin, almost gaunt face. He is immensely proud of the way he dresses and appears, so always spends a while making sure he looks as good and professional as he can, and often goes running just to make sure his muscles are all in check. He hates looking bad, as this is a sign of the sort of laziness purebloods should never possess. He has cold, almost unfeeling grey eyes, which only show a glimmer of emotion when he’s with Narcissa or when he’s particularly enjoyed hurting someone who deserves it. His hair is long and blond, but not exceedingly so. As a rule, he is clean-shaven. He has to maintain his dignity as a pureblood by maintaining a good appearance. He constantly carries himself with an air of dignity and superiority, looking down his nose derisively at anyone who dares challenge him. Often with muggles, they challenge him by their mere presence. Everything, appearance included, is a matter of pride to Lucius.

History:

Lucius was born on the 1959 into the ancient wizarding family, the Malfoys. His father, Abraxus Malfoy loved to meddle in the Dark Arts and perform experiments with magic. Lucius was made to watch these from an early age and picked up a lot of magicial knowledge as well as his values. He quickly learnt that it was the most important thing in the world to be a Malfoy and proud of it. He often enjoyed watching his father hold meetings with other purebloods, especially the ones who owed him money, because then he got to watch his father demonstrate exactly why the Malfoys were the formidable family he had been taught they were. He held little respect for other children as he grew up, but always had the utmost respect for his father. However, when he became older and he discovered there was money involved, there was a part of him that wanted to his father to get on with it and die. From observing his father and listening to his words intently, before he even went to school, he learnt there were three important things in life; Money, Blood and Power. Have two and you can acquire the other. He learnt to respect people his father respected and look down on the ones he looked down on.


However, once he went to Hogwarts in 1970, he became aware that he had to decide who he could respect, who he should look down on and who he could use to his advantage. He quickly acquired himself, through persuasion and charm, two henchmen in Crabbe and Goyle, who he didn’t so much as boss around as manipulate to his advantage. Not to mention, they made him look good. He loved to observe the actions of his housemates, carefully making mental notes of who to be wary of, who to rely on and who he could manipulate. He only spoke to those who he considered to be worthy of his conversation, whether it be by blood, money or just to make him feel superior. One of all three of them was Narcissa Black. He never cared for her older sister, considering her a little too quick to anger and a challenge to his influence, not to mention he despised the lack of respect she showed to her parents and her husband. However, for Narcissa, there was a definite sense of affection, partly because she was much less likely to challenge his sense of authority and superiority, partly because she was a beautiful pureblood who had a good sense of duty, family and loyalty, but partly because he did feel a genuine affection for her. Having learnt from an early age to shut his emotions up, he never really expressed properly what he felt for her, probably because he couldn’t quite understand it himself, loathed to describe it as love or anything similar. Weak people loved. One thing he did know though, is that she’d certainly be a very good wife in his vision of how his bloodline and family was supposed to continue.

Since leaving school, Lucius has been mainly milling around his father’s mansion, helping him with business and doing his part (which he considers a large part, but it really isn’t yet) as a Death Eater. He attended the recent meeting and took his Dark Mark, like everything else in his life, with pride, which he was prepared to do anyway, even though his father was going to persuade him, after years of being the top of the hierarchy in school, he wanted to continue it out of school. He wanted to put his ideas and theories about his purity into practice, using what he considered his natural position of power to gain him power in the eyes of all. Since leaving school, he has been experimenting with curses, particularly enjoying using the Imperius for the sheer sense of power it gives him.



Personality:

Lucius can be very charming when he needs to persuade someone to his point of view, or get himself out of trouble, not that he’d admit he ever was in trouble. He is a very skilled wizard and takes great pleasure in experimenting with artefacts, potions and spells to produce the best effect. He doesn’t appear to lose his temper often and is very well spoken, preferring to choose his words carefully than shout and hex things on first instinct. He is less of a firebrand than say, someone like Bellatrix, preferring to exact his revenge and convictions whilst keeping his dignity and control of the situation. He has a strong book-intelligence, due to his father impressing the need to be a strong, capable heir to the purest family in the country. He has masses of self confidence, which he considers to be an asset. He is also very cold and calculating, giving him an element of emotional detachment from events, allowing him to work out the next best move without emotions blurring his decision making process. He is very, very determined to get what he wants and the best for him and his family. Family is one thing that is very, very important to him. He would do anything for the name of his family or the people in it, but if anyone of pureblood shows disrespect for his family, or their own families for that matter, he has an automatic disdain for them. Even members of his own family he would want to prove their loyalty to his family, but more precisely him, it is not good enough being born a Malfoy or marrying one, you have to prove your worth to the bloodline. To him, family is important for the past more than the future.

He respects no-one bar the purest of the pure. He especially looks down on Muggles, Muggleborns and Halfbloods, considering them to be subhuman, but even views some of his fellow purebloods with some distain, considering some of them to betraying and disgracing their bloodlines with their choices in lifestyle, sexuality or simply because they’re not as pure as him. He loves power and hates being out of control. Even though he seldom loses his temper visably, when the pressure of events gets to him, he will fly off the handle.

He hardly ever demonstrates his emotions and increasingly struggles to feel them. He finds it difficult to deal with the concept of guilt and remorse as he would never admit he was wrong or at fault and this has been reinforced since his childhood, that a Malfoy can do no wrong. It’s the world’s fault for having Muggles for him to torture and kill, not his fault for doing so. He is a cruel and ruthless nihilist as a result of this, and best not crossed unless you want to suffer for eternity. His only care is for himself and the name of his family. Anything that is a threat to that, especially what he considers to be the filth all over the wizarding world, he is determined to destroy. Although he is a loyal member of the Death Eaters and pride of it, this is because it does and will continue to serve his own self interest. He feels more loyal to the principle and what he can gain from it than Lord Voldemort himself. Despite this, he does have an immense respect for him, because he’s one of the few ‘real’ purebloods left in the world.

He has high expectations of other people, especially other purebloods, but underestimates the power and ability of non-purebloods, failing to comprehend how they can possibly be skilled wizards. He can be very over protective and possessive over what is his, especially his family and bloodline. He is far, far too self confident and can pass himself off as a much more influential individual than he actually is, but he hasn’t mastered this and often comes off as a smarmy, arrogant man, because quite simply, despite the façade of genuine influence he puts up, he really is. He will hardly ever be honest with you unless he trusts you implicitly
